Team Letteiri!

Today I had Mike and Rich Letteiri..  A father son team that have become very good friends of mine over the years.  Mike and I go back a ways and he is now working on his PHd in San Diego. He had not caught a bass in 3 years so that was the agenda for the day.  We started slow in the pea soup fog but found fish on our first stop and promptly caught numerous small keepers and schoolies virtually every cast.
After that we moved out and found the mother load of bass which we pretty much stayed on all day long.
Great day fishing with clients who are life long friends....I always look forward to fishing with these guys!....

Openings.....

I have been flat out for the month of June but as July nears, I have many holes in my weekly schedule.  If you would like to get out please do not hesitate to contact me.  I look forward to hearing from you!

Riiiiiiiiiiiips

I had Ed Meyer out a few weeks back in CC bay for a good outing and he was back today to fish with his 12 year old son Will.  Ed had stressed interest in fishing the rips off chatham so off we went this morning.   I stayed up a bit last nite and tied a half dozen of my *fecal explosion squids* *.  It was a drizzly morning and not many boats were out.  We made our way to a favorite rip and started fishing...First cast and they crushed a got stryper amber bait....I had Will toss plastic and Ed cast flies...As the tide got moving the fish showed up... Most were just sub legal or just over legal....As the tide wore on bigger fish showed up and we scored many 12-21lb bass....on flies and plastic...Just a great outing with this father and son team.

SW and SUN!!

Well it blew hard from the SW today but the fish chewed well and in the frothy white we scored well with 11 inch Got Stryper baits.  Largest fish was 25lbs and caughtmany in the low 20's.....Had a swing and a miss with charlie in the am but resorted to the great bass fishing we have been having....

More Epic

Epic days ......

I've seen some good bass fishing over the years but today was one for the record books.  They chewed hard and long and were very receptive to properly placed flies in the column.
I had Jim and Neil from the UK today...We got blown out on Monday so we were hoping for a great outing....

We started off with schoolies taken on crease flies in the fog in the early morn....They were having a blast with that but it was time to move on and find better fish.  Long and short of it is we caught probably 75 plus fish today all on flies and most between 10 and 25lbs with half being between 15 and 20lbs....A few toads exceeded 25.....These UK guys will never be the same!!...
Great outing guys...I always enjoy customers from the mother land!!...

After the gale!

Today I had Dick Carroll and Suse Ikutu onboard.  These guys have been friends of mine for many years and have been fishing with me every summer for the last 6 or 7...  We started kinda slow in the pea soup fog and caught some schoolies then it was out to the meat house where Suse took a very large fish on his first cast.  He caught several more there all in the 12 to 20lb range.  We ran a bit and it got sloppy...Found some open water schools of bass and were doubled up repeatively for the next hour on big bass and monster bluefish.
We decided to see if the tuna were still around and found the whales and were blind casting to tuna and had 25lb bass come up and inhale the Got Stryper topwater baits.  We had several tuna boils but they just would not commit.  From there we ran back inshore and found some topwater bass fishing that was world class....Fish after fish, all 15 to 30lbs on top, in the column.  Dick stuck with the flyrod and scored several 20lb fish.  Suse stuck with plastic and scored many as well...It was stupid fishing and didnt get any better!!

GALE

Well it has been blowing a gale the last 3 days.  I tried to get a couple sports from the UK onto fish yesterday in the lee up at P town.  Found the lee but the fish were not there.  Surface temp was 42 to 45 degrees...Down almost 20 degrees from a couple days prior.
My radar quit working.  That is not good....I hope to troubleshoot it sometime today and hopefully it is just a loose connection, fuse or other simple fix.
Lost 3 trips this week due to the weather.  Not good...When the wind turns around to the west and warms things up these fish are gonna eat hard....
This weather did allow me to spend time with my girls and host our first 09 sushi party and entertain a bit even tho it was a bit chilly.  Geeze we even turned on the gas fireplace to get warmed up....Global warming..???..Hell it is almost July...I guess this is my payback for all the warm days in the bahamas this winter....
Last week I had Richard Regan and John Kaufmann onboard...Richard wrote a report on The Angling Post about his experience fishing with me....You can check out the report here.

South 15 to 20.........

Makes fish EAT...

Today I had John Kaufmann and Richard Regan from NY.  Both are accomplished fly anglers.  We started the day looking for tuna and had two grabs on a popper but it seemed to die so we headed back in to do some bassing....It took a awhile to get on the fish but once we did and figured out there movements we were tight to good fish for most of the day....As the day wore on more and more boats vacated and we had the ocean virtually to ourselves...God I wish everyday was like that....

Drunk on bay anchovies.....

The bass that is....slurp, slurp, slurp....From late morning on that is what we found...The boys from the UK spanked em good today and had a quality outing.
The day before we hammered school bass and went looking for tuna and got hooked up immediately on top...After a short battle of under 20 minutes a nice 63 to 64 comes to the boat thrashing for a clean release!
Great two days OTW with the boys from the UK!

Wind switches....

and fishing takes a nose dive...Today I had Ed Meyer and his friend Bill along.  They came from NY with hopes of spanking big bass on the fly.  I knew when I woke up this morning that it was going to be a tough day and tough it was...We managed 4 keeper bass on the flyrods and x amount of shorts and a few blues.  Fish were hugging bottom most of the day and getting down required 500 grains.  Compared to yesterday it was a bit dissapointing but you never know when the whammy is going to show up!!

Wind switches....

and it's lights out fishing!!....After 3 or more days of E N/E wind, it finally switched around to a strong SW overnite.  My guys arrived on time in the rain and we made the quartering down sea run to where we have been fishing the past week.  Upon arriving it was a tad slow but we still picked up a few nice fish.....I moved a bit and that is when the non stop action started and it lasted pretty much throughout the day except for going a bit slow during the morning slack.  Flies and plastics ruled again and it was all topwater.  It was rockin and rolling out there today and Loren and Steve battled it out.
We probably landed over 35 bass from 15-25lbs...All were very fat and healthy...After the turn it got very good but as the tide started cranking the blues moved in and it became a 50/50 mix...
Just incredible fishing that these two great guys will not soon forget!!

Can't remember....

the last time I saw the sun!!...Man what crazy weather we are having....I have been shivering on the boat the past 3 or so days....Fish were in a funk this morning but when the tide turned they came out of the deep water onto the shelf and ATE.  Loren and Steve picked at fish this morning then hammered them this afternoon on flies and plastic.
Fishing with these Oregon boys has been nothing but fun...Thanks guys..;)

Brits and Bends

I had two fun days fishing with the boys from the UK.  We hammered bass and a few blues on the fly both days.  On the second day we were on a massive school of topwater feeding bass.  We were the only ones on it so called in a buddy boat.  We had about 2 hours on this school....All legal fish....Got some video!!
Today I had Loren Irving and his pal Steve onboard from Bend Oregon.  I give today a B-...We got some nice fish and alot of chunky mid size fish but struggled to stay on the fish throughout the day....Looking forward to taking these guys again 2morrow!

More tuna

My brother Dan came out for a visit the past few days and I took him and Paul Higgins out for the day.  We banged some bass and a few blues early on and then got the itch to go look for a tuna or two....We found em good in the afternoon and Dan and Paul hooked up several times on the spinner and eventually landed a couple of nice mid 60 inch fish....Both fish were released healthy to fight again.  I had a chance in the bow and wanted one on feathers and stuck a fish with the 18wt Biscayne and Tibor Pacific.   30 minutes later we are releasing a lively mid 60 inch fish on the fly!
Yesterday we decided to go find some cod and haddock and while doing so found a few tuna which we hooked up to but lost after a 20 minute battle...
Today I had a group from the UK and we banged bass all day long on the fly....
Fishing has been good to excellent most days....

3 for 6 and enough topwater bass to say...

Today was riptacular!.. Had my bro out from Colorado and Paul Higgins *Bearboat* on board today and we started at a leisurely 730 am and played with the bass on topwater for awhile. We caught enough keepers to keep it interesting but were finally lured to the tuna grounds in search on another topwater bite. We searched for awhile and nuttin and then moved back in to bass fish and found a nice pushing school that we couldnt connect on. After a bit we moved out and found a baitball that finally developed with crashing tuna....After hooking up and dropping then hooking up again and staying tight, we called in a buddy boat and they were tight as well. We released a nice 64-65inch fish boatside taken on a topwater Got Stryper rubber bait. We moved back to the baitball and it was still alive and now it was my turn as I unleashed the 18wt Biscayne with Tibor Pacific...I immediately came tight to a mean green fish that had us clocking after him at a good clip...15 minutes of chase to put all that backing back on and now it was down to the nitty gritty....I had the fish boatside in 30 minutes for another clean release. We were pumped to see these fish in good shape! Our buddy boat was tight numerous times as well and we just played polite as they did and we had these fish all to ourselves for over 2 hours....
Bearboat is now up and he grabs the Biscayne and accidentally snags a pogie but while bringing it to the boat a huge tuna crashes the pogy and he is tight or is he?!?!...The fish peeled off 250 yards of backing and after a 5 minute battle the line goes limp....But it is coming back with something....Ayup, a flattened pogie that has seen the inner reaches of a tunas mawl!
My bro was not done so he fires again and gets tight and we release that fish after 30 minutes...
No pics today since we released all but it will be engrained in our memories forevah!

Hot damned!

What a day we had today.  Shawn Rayder and his uncle Mike were on board for a full day bass trip...We hammered the bass all day early on in the rain and later in the sun....We went and took a peek for charlie and found them at lunch but a stick boat ran over the busting school...We went back to bass fishing and were ready to call it a day when Scott called and said they were doubled up where we left em earlier...We made the short run back and went 1 for 6 on bites...Got some GREAT video of the takes....
Nice way to break in the new Stella 1800!!....June 4th and here we are catching big tuna!!..We also caught a huge bluefish so does that make an Outer Cape Slam? ;)
